Empty deck[edit source]

What happens when you play tracking with 2, 1, or 0 cards remaining in the deck? How does the interface handle it? - jerodast (talk) 16:22, 3 July 2015 (UTC)

When is a discard not a discard?[edit source]

I'm not sure of the best way to handle tagging this card's 'discard' behaviour. Firstly, it is not a discard. It removes the card directly from the setaside zone without triggering any discard-triggers, and is definitively not counted as a discard. Therefore having it tagged as a discard - even with special notes explaining it's not like other discards - is very misleading. Plus, a lot of readers will skip straight to the list, and won't see the disclaimer that Tracking isn't really a discard.

However, that leaves the question of how to tag the behaviour. It's more similar to Fel Reaver's remove from deck effect, except that it behaves differently from that, too; it's not removed directly from the deck, and the discarded cards aren't revealed to the opponent. Arguably we could change Remove from deck to something like Remove from game, or simply Remove, but this would mean making the page include two very different behaviours under the same tag, simply for convenience; most of the details would be dependent on the subtype, not the main type, which isn't really good organisation. Alternatively we could make a Remove from setaside zone page, which at least would be accurate, but feels a bit clunky and includes external/hidden terminology. Technically all Discover and Choose One effects are probably also examples of this effect, which I guess we would just have to ignore for tagging purposes. Finally, we could simply not tag the behaviour. Arguably not every effect needs its own page, there's only one example of this behaviour at present, and there's no reason you'd need to seek out Tracking by searching for its "remove from setaside zone" behaviour.

Agreed the discard label is confusing and a bad idea. I don't think we need to tag that side of the behavior at all; if people are interested in the unique mechanics they can just read the notes here. If there are identical effects in the future we can add a special tag then. Even if someone was looking for, say, effects that speed up fatigue, they would find this under "Draw effect", so I really don't see a drawback. - jerodast (talk) 15:20, 11 September 2016 (UTC)

Card draw bug on Ambush?[edit source]

Great question came up in a Hearthstone World Championship game today (Cydonia Hunter vs Jasonzhou Druid). Jason had earlier played  Beneath the Grounds, and when Cydonia played Tracking, one of his options was an Ambush! card. He selected another card, but the commentators wondered: if he had chosen Ambush!, would the card draw effect have triggered?

This article suggests it wouldn't have triggered, but since it appears to be a bug I wonder if the bug is universal. Ambignostic (talk) 17:01, 28 October 2016 (UTC)

The 'bug' definition is stretched a bit in this case, since rather than an intermittent glitch the card simply functions correctly as a put into hand effect instead of as a card draw effect. It's unintended, but otherwise works perfectly. There's also a good chance the devs will end up simply going with it. -- Taohinton (talk) 06:31, 29 October 2016 (UTC)
