Compared to cards such as 
Bog Creeper and Dark Arakkoa, Gemstudded Golem has slightly above average stats but a significant downside. Cards such as 
Unidentified Shield and 
Shield Block let this minion attack on the turn after playing it. Note that this minion still requires a turn to pass before it can attack - having 5 Armor on the turn you play it will not allow it to immediately attack.
