Notes

  • Mind Control Tech's Battlecry lets the player choose an enemy minion and take control of it, provided they control at least 4 minions.
  • If the player's board is full when attempting to take control of an enemy minion, the targeted minion will instead be destroyed.
  • If Mind Control Tech's Battlecry is doubled (e.g. by  Brann Bronzebeard), it will attempt to take control of the same minion twice, meaning nothing will happen on the second trigger.

History

Notes prior to Patch 29.0.0.195635

In patch 29.0, Mind Control Tech's Battlecry was changed to be targeted. The following notes applied before the change:

  • Because Mind Control Tech's Battlecry was untargeted (unlike  Cabal Shadow Priest), you were not required to have a free space on the board for the minion it would steal when you played Mind Control Tech. Because of this, if the summoning of Mind Control Tech itself made your board full, leaving no room for the stolen minion, the minion it attempted to steal would instead die, and any Deathrattle will be triggered for your opponent.[2]
    • Because of this, playing Mind Control Tech with a  Brann Bronzebeard on the board would result in two separate minions potentially being taken control of (assuming the opponent has at least 5). This again assumed you have two space on your side of the board; if you had no spaces both minions would be destroyed, and if you had 1 space then 1 minion would be captured and the other destroyed.
    • However, if you had no space for both minions, they would both be killed, but this happened even if your opponent had 4 minions (even if only one should die)

Lore

Mind Control Tech is clearly inspired by the Gnomish Mind Control Cap from World of Warcraft. Using the cap allows its wearer to "engage in mental combat with a humanoid target to try and control their mind." Gnomes are known for their inventiveness, as well as for the unpredictability of their inventions, as reflected in the initial version of this card.
