Notes

To edit these notes, go to Template:Obsidian Shard notes.

  • The mana cost of this card is reduced by 1 for each time the controlling player has played a class card from another class that game.
    • The cost reduction of this card is not dependent on the card being in the player's hand or deck or even on the card existing at the time the class card was played.
    • The cost reduction of this card is determined by the number of played cards that are class cards and do not belong to your current class.
Example: If you play as a Priest and obtain some Rogue cards through  Thoughtsteal and  Mind Vision, the cost of any Obsidian Shard in your hand will be reduced by Rogue cards you've played before.
Example: If you play as a Rogue and your hero is replaced by  Lord Jaraxxus or  Majordomo Executus' Deathrattle, the mana cost of Obsidian Shard is immediately reduced also by the number of Rogue cards you played so far that game since your current class is not Rogue anymore (Lord Jaraxxus is considered a Warlock, while Ragnaros does not belong to any of the nine playable classes).[1][2]
Example: If you play as a Rogue, tri-class cards of the Jade Lotus played so far do not reduce the cost of Obsidian Shard, since they still count as Rogue cards.[3]
  • The mana cost of this card cannot be reduced below 0. However, further cost-reductions can help in countering cost-increasing effects.
  • This card has an in-hand effect: it modifies its own mana cost only while in the player's hand, and not while the card is anywhere else.
