Mass deletion of some card images and datapages; hearthpwn numbering system for BG[edit source]

1) Gamepedia's Tech Support recommends to notify Wiki members in a case of mass deletions. I spent some time looking for redundant images of card images and datapages of adventures, and the list turned out to be this. All that are marked "DELETE" are unused (File:Maexxna.png), unnecessary at present time (Data:Cards/Heroic Zinaar(27307)), or unnecessarily created (Data:Cards/Zinaar while having Data:Cards/Zinaar(27306)). In general, this is aimed at maintaining the hearthpwn numbering system.

What do you think about this? Would it disappoint anybody?

2) User Aegonostic raised the issue of the numbering system of datapages for Battlegrounds cards a year ago (№ 30 topic of this page). I recently figured out hearthpwn numbering is not applicable only for collectible BG cards (for example, Alleycat because they do not have a separate id in the game assets, and therefore are missing on hearthpwn. However, unique BG cards, or ones having a different effect comparing to original (Glyph Guardian (Battlegrounds)) are present in both the regular and gold versions on hearthpwn, which makes it possible to use numbering system. So, in my opinion, moving the datapages to number system would best look like this:

  • Data:Cards/Alleycat (Battlegrounds) and (Battlegrounds, golden) (no changes)
  • Data:Cards/Zapp Slywick(127332) and Zapp Slywick(184912)

What do you think? Leave as is, or rename datapages where it is possible? Podstail12 (talk) 16:08, 2 January 2021 (UTC)

About multiple versions of a card[edit source]

We are going to have multiple versions of a collectible card (same name, but different sets), and I found out that this is very difficult to manage properly. It would be easy if it was like Doom in the Tomb thing, because it was limited-time, lasting only 2 months. After a few researches, I can confirm the Core set will work exactly like how Wild Event set did, except that we don't know how long a card can stay in the Core set. It may be even permanent.

The problem here is, I can't decide which version will be the main article of the card. Usually we have priority something like: 'Standard > Wild > Uncollectible > Battlegrounds > Duels > old Arena event > Boss cards' to name the article with brackets.

My first idea is to make the Legacy version as the main one, but it will belong to Wild, which has lower priority than Standard format cards. Here is the content I will replace  Lord Jaraxxus with after FitB launches: User:Use25/Sandbox2. I also made  Lord Jaraxxus and  Lord Jaraxxus for testing.

Another choice is to make the Core version as the main one, but I'm not sure how this will be handled. Obviously the Classic format version won't be the main one, since it doesn't feel like a bigger format than our old traditional two formats.

Wanna hear you guys' thoughts about this. Which version should we choose as the main article? Use25 (talk) 04:28, 27 February 2021 (UTC)

Hey, uh, sorry for bumping, but it's going to be a mass and important change. I feel like we need to exchange and come to an agreement before executing. Use25 (talk) 05:48, 1 March 2021 (UTC)
I think we should do what's currently on  Spectral Sight. We use a page for the Core version of the card ( Spectral Sight) that's used for lists, but also have the {{Card/core|}} template display the Core version but link to the original. That way people are brought towards the main page that has the Strategy and Notes, but alternate versions are easily displayed. TheMurlocAggroB (talk) 06:17, 1 March 2021 (UTC)
I don't know if {{Card/core|}} should link to the original, but I like having the original card staying as the main card, as it's the one that's gonna be forever in the game.
Maybe the strategy section on the Core card could be a "See Spectral Vision#Strategy", or maybe a strategy adapted to Standard, as the card could be used in different archetypes in Standard and in Wild. --Mattheus 45 (talk) 17:32, 1 March 2021 (UTC)
I have edited  Spectral Sight and  Spectral Sight a bit to match the original version as first priority, and redirected File:Spectral Sight Core.png to File:Spectral Sight(475075).png. I'm not sure if adding Core version's How to get to the original one's is a good idea. If they don't need any more changes, we can start using this format and creating Core card articles.
{{Card/core}} will have parameter image to overload the image name. The default image is just <card name> Core, and it requires redirects if we know the Hearthpwn id.
In meantime, I will try to find a way to improve {{Card/core}}, because it isn't a semantics template. I'm not sure if User:SBEyes is still around to help us with these kind of queries, our existing templates are already complicated and I don't wish to touch any of them. My first idea is to add some kind of parameter like bg_ver to sync with core versions so that {{Card/core}} won't require unnecessary redirects. Use25 (talk) 19:37, 1 March 2021 (UTC)
Couldn't {{Card/core|name}} be a shortcut for {{Card|name (Core)}}? Also, I agree that the Core card's How to get should stay on the Core card; that's why I was going for Card/core linking to the actual core card. --Mattheus 45 (talk) 20:11, 1 March 2021 (UTC)
I was trying to follow MurlocAggroB's idea that Card template displays the Core version, but links to Spectral Sight, not Spectral Sight (Core). Because {{Card}} always links the card to their page, I had to make a separate template. Use25 (talk) 02:34, 2 March 2021 (UTC)

Dual-class tag?[edit source]

I think we should add a tag for dual-class cards. This way, we could have a dynamic list of such cards on  Keywarden Ivory's page. - Linneris (talk) 14:26, 15 March 2021 (UTC)

I can do that. I'm also going to turn Multi-class card into a section to list dual and tri-class cards as well instead of a redirect. Dean Ayala really wants to do more dual-class cards, so future-proofing the page seems like a good idea. TheMurlocAggroB (talk) 17:57, 15 March 2021 (UTC)
Good work! - Linneris (talk) 12:44, 16 March 2021 (UTC)

Needing help about Classic format cards and Legacy cards[edit source]

Right now, I'm in need of mass creating Classic format cards and mass editing Legacy cards.

What I have achieved
  • Created all needed data
  • Imported all images
  • Formats are here.
What I should've done
  • Create Classic format card pages. Examples:  Elven Archer,  Goldshire Footman,... (the list is in Classic format). Format: Template:Classic card page.
  • Edit supposed-to-be Legacy cards. This includes all Basic and Classic (2014-2021) cards. Format: Template:Legacy card page.
    • I want to do this earlier because there are hundreds of cards to be moved to Wild soon. It would be extremely time-consuming and unhealthy if we tried to do all at once on March 30. I think it will be better if we can spare numbers of cards and edit their pages on these following days, and the rotation is coming in <2 days, so we may as well do this.

I would be extremely grateful if someone could help me with these Classic and Legacy stuffs, so I can focus more on other matters to be dealt with soon (like Duels cards, Spell school cards and modified cards,...). Use25 (talk) 07:44, 29 March 2021 (UTC)

I wonder if there's an easier way of doing this. Is there a way to automatically fetch information from another article? A way to automatically fill the card infobox template with information from {{subst:#sub:{{subst:PAGENAME}}|0|-10}} would be quite helpful, and would only leave the (most menial part of) having to search for Data:Cards/Cardname, and picking the version with smallest number from the ones that are greater than 464000. Blue Banana whotookthisname (talk) 13:51, 30 March 2021 (UTC)
I wish I there were. Had we used actual dbfids cards from actual Hearthstone instead of Hearthpwn ids in the beginning, we would absolutely not need to do manually like this. Use25 (talk) 20:52, 7 April 2021 (UTC)

Private discussion[edit source]

I would like to discuss with you administrators about important changes/issues to the wiki which should be done in private. I was thinking of inviting you to a Discord server. What do you think? We may as well chat about HS if you feel you want to. Use25 (talk) 03:47, 28 April 2021 (UTC)

Patches[edit source]

The page Patches hasn't been updated since January, and the corresponding page for patch versions isn't created yet. Minhngoc25a (talk) 03:24, 4 June 2021 (UTC).

Book of Heroes/Mercenaries Encounter names[edit source]

This is more than likely not needed and is more something I'm curious about. However, given that the encounters within Book of Heroes and Book of Mercenaries have specific titles to them, would it be better to rename the currently catalogued encounters (and all future ones) with that title or is it best to just keep the page listed as just the boss?

As a point of reference, we already have a titled encounter from Galakrond's Awakening ( The Amazing Reno), and the encounters could certainly be formatted similar to how those in Galakrond's Awakening are listed.

Encounters that share a title can be noted by which version they are, as usual (Example: "Eternity's End" is the title of Jaina's & Thrall's fifth BoH encounter and could be denoted as such (Eternity's End (Jaina) & Eternity's End (Thrall)).Zorro9 (talk) 02:55, 15 June 2021 (UTC).

Battlegrounds cards[edit source]

Why are constructed cards tagged as Battlegrounds cards and listed in Category:Battlegrounds cards? Shouldn't the cards' battlegrounds versions be tagged instead? Blue Banana whotookthisname (talk) 17:32, 29 June 2021 (UTC)

Some constructed cards and Battlegrounds cards are actually the same entity, so consider that they have themshelves another Battlegrounds version (Like golden, diamond,...). Exceptions include Micro Machine, Primalfin Lookout, Sneed's Old Shredder, because they truly don't use their collectible version and they are different cards. Many cards with random effects and triggered effects are treated like that due to Battlegrounds mechanics having different mechanic and different pool of cards to available.
What you called some of cards as "Battlegrounds versions" are now only served as subpages and not actual cards anymore, so there should not be categorized as a card data. Use25 (talk) 16:42, 30 June 2021 (UTC)

New Discord channel[edit source]

Hello everyone. I have created a discord channel for our wiki. Here is the invite link: https://discord.gg/3M7kX3gf

Also, there are some matters I really really want to discuss with you guys. If you have time, please join with me and we can talk about it in private. Use25 (talk) 15:15, 10 July 2021 (UTC)

Use25, could you put that link on the community portal page? Minhngoc25a (talk) 08:53, 11 July 2021 (UTC).
And on the nav bar also. Minhngoc25a (talk) 08:54, 11 July 2021 (UTC).
im probably missing something, but im unable to join the discord. the "invite" come up as invalid. "this invite may be expired, or you might not permission to join"

Hero Cards aren't registered as a CustomCardsCardType[edit source]

All hero cards on the site currently have their type listed as INVALID, and this means that the Hero Card page doesn't show any cards in its table.

For example, check out the type in the infobox of  Lord Jaraxxus or  The Amazing Reno.

It seems like all of these cards do have their type attribute set to "Hero Card", but this isn't actually defined as a type in Template:CardsCardType_table, and also isn't registered as a user-facing name in Template:Card_type_define.

Moreover, once this is fixed it would be nice if we could get a better table for the Hero Cards. Template:List_cards has card lists for spells, minions and weapons, and it would be nice if hero cards could be added as a custom list to e.g. add armour value as a column and to omit the irrelevant columns of type, attack and hp.

I'd try to make these changes myself, but I don't have permission to edit Template pages, so I need an Admin to help.

Lists of cards are hidden with no way to expand them[edit source]

I've had this problem for a while -- whenever I look at a Hearthstone Wiki page with a list of cards, the list is hidden, and there's no way for me to reveal/expand it. For example, here's what the Dormant page looks like to me:

A list of cards--but the list is hidden, and there's no way to expand it

I've tried resetting my display settings. I see the same issue on both Chrome and Safari, desktop and mobile. Choosing "printable version" doesn't fix it.

So... how do I fix this? It makes the site almost useless to me. I used to be a pretty active contributor but now it's just frustrating. Shoutingboy (talk) 21:52, 25 March 2022 (UTC)

@Shoutingboy: It's not hidden. The wiki has gone a major restructuring and most old values of cards were renamed to something else. Most of the old pages use the List cards template, while the new pages use the Card query template. That's the reason it's not showing up. Minhngoc25a (talk) 03:01, 21 April 2022 (UTC).

@Shoutingboy, @Minhngoc25a: I've fixed most of these pages that had the broken "List cards" template, and they're now using the working Card query template. These pages now work normally again. VGhost01 (talk) 16:26, 20 May 2022 (UTC)

Style standards for deck pages[edit source]

I tried to edit Handlock page by adding new cards to Wild section. The problem I quickly encountered is that it looks like some Standard cards are actually under-represented in Standard format version of deck. I'm little-known with Standard meta and can't be sure if this is it or not in each specific case.

So should these Standard cards (initially I wanted to add them to Wild deck builds) keep where they are now or is it better to duplicate the information in both sections?

@Terrakota"d The Handlock article is severely outdated at this point. It has several cards in the Standard section that are from 2019. I'm planning to update most deck archetype articles soon to be more in line with how they look nowadays, but in the meantime, you can include Standard cards that don't see play in Standard but do in Wild in the Wild section only. Or you could include them in the Standard section, then include this text in the Wild section: "In addition to the Standard cards, the following Wild cards are played in most or all versions of the deck:". It's up to you. VGhost01 (talk) 12:47, 25 May 2022 (UTC)
Okay, thanks. In truth, I already intended to do something like this. Just wanted to consult. Terrakota"d (talk) 17:54, 25 May 2022 (UTC)

Hm, maybe it makes sense to add a template for "included cards" (Standard icon) or something else to optimize navigation on such pages? Terrakota"d (talk) 23:34, 25 May 2022 (UTC)

I mean if you have an idea for a template, go for it. VGhost01 (talk) 12:26, 26 May 2022 (UTC)
Unfortunately, I'm not very good at designing templates; although I still like the idea. Terrakota"d (talk) 14:49, 26 May 2022 (UTC)

I could make it for you, but it's not exactly convenient to chat about it here. You could join the HS wiki discord server to make it easier: https://discord.gg/pJCYXfuaDs VGhost01 (talk) 19:35, 26 May 2022 (UTC)
